Seal concrete and pavers
Sealed surfaces absorb less water, so less freezes inside them. The Portland Cement Association lists sealing as a defense against scaling. Seal while days are still above about 50°F.
Clear gutters
Ice in full gutters adds weight and forces water under shingles.
Deck and outdoor spigots
Clean off leaves that trap moisture on decks, and disconnect hoses so frost-free spigots can drain.
