How to Clean and Seal an Exposed Aggregate Driveway
Exposed aggregate driveways, where the pebbles show on top, are common on higher-end homes in Brentwood and Franklin. Sealed, they look rich and wet. Unsealed, they fade, stain and start shedding stones.
Why sealing matters more here
The stones are held by a thin layer of cement paste. Water and freeze-thaw cycles gradually loosen them. A quality sealer binds the surface, blocks stains and brings back the color.
Cleaning first
Aggregate traps dirt and mildew between the stones. It needs a thorough surface clean and time to dry before sealing, or the sealer turns cloudy.
Choosing a finish
Solvent-based acrylic sealers give the deep wet look most homeowners want. Water-based options look more natural. Either way, thin even coats last better than one heavy coat.
What you can try yourself
- Blow off debris and rinse.
- Clean with a concrete cleaner and let it dry for at least a day.
- Apply sealer in thin coats with a sprayer and back-roll.
What to avoid
- Sealing damp concrete.
- Heavy single coats, which peel and cause hot-tire pickup.

What customers say
"I used First Class Pressure Cleaning to seal my aggregate driveway and they did a fantastic job. It was in rough shape as we had never sealed it before. Lots of salt damage as well from trying to de-ice the last winter storm. It looks so much better now. They even came back the next day for touch-ups on some areas where the winter salts had worn through to the concrete. Very happy with this company and the work they’ve done!"

Judy B. · Google Review
"Highly recommend! Andrew and his team were great at communicating and worked around rainy weather days to clean and seal our stamped concrete around the pool to ensure the product would successfully seal it. They were on time, friendly, and their communication throughout the process was amazing!"
