Flagstone can be set in mortar or in sand and gravel. How it's set changes how it should be cleaned.
Mortar-set vs. dry-laid
Pressure can wash sand and gravel out of dry-laid joints and damage cracked mortar joints.
Algae and moss
A treatment followed by a gentle rinse usually clears growth without stripping joints.
Sealing
Some flagstone benefits from a penetrating sealer; some is better left natural. It depends on the stone.
